The Web Checkout Patron Portal

The following project is an app design for the Web Checkout Patron Portal. The original site had a very confusing and tedious way for simply booking a study room, so I decided to create a more efficient and user friendly way for students to reserve work rooms.

The Web Checkout Patron Portal is made for the students of the University of Waterloo to reserve study rooms on their Stratford campus. The first time I used this website, I was thrown off by the design and layout of the site. The website has “Create New Reservation,” “My Reservations,” “My Current Checkouts,” and “History” as their main navigation. My Current Checkouts and History are counterproductive parts of the website because it would just show your reservations when you already have a page made for that.

When it comes down to making the actual reservation, the process is very long and confusing. When I personally tried to reserve a room during the semester, I was so confused I did not even end up booking a room. The website should be more concise and simple for easy booking.

My design for the Web Checkout Patron Portal app is an improvement from the website, as I organized the app in a simple, yet effective way. I completely reworked the website’s design and colour palette. I used Photoshop to improve the website design and branding to match the UWaterloo colour scheme.. The app I designed only has two tabs: “Create New Reservations” and “My Reservations”. This creates a more user friendly app by being more straightforward and understandable.

I chose to design the app with the purpose of grouping and organizing content in a more fluid way for easy navigation. I decided to add the mini navigation bar so that the user can access all parts of the app at all times. The new design of the app, has significantly made the process of reserving a work room effortless and straightforward.
